Omar Perez, Ph.D.

Head of Medical Diagnostics, US Medical Affairs Oncology, AstraZeneca

Diverse leader with a passion for delivering precision medicine efforts to improve global healthcare. Over 20 years designing, deploying, and leading high-visibility oncology initiatives supporting biomarker and diagnostic developments, strategic partnerships and commercialization opportunities. Proven track record of driving change in oncology drug development (IO, TKIs, ADCs and gene cell therapy) and companion diagnostics. Recognized as a compelling, strategic enterprise leader who cultivates successful outcomes by engaging and fostering strong scientific and business alliances. Builds and leads world-class teams through sound, consistent leadership, clear communication, coaching and mentoring for employee engagement and effective and actionable interpersonal skills. Hands on experience developing and implementing strategic programs in US and multiple markets (EU, China, Japan, Middle East, Asia, Africa) to support the launch and lifecycle management of oncology therapeutics.

Dr. Perez currently heads the medical diagnostics group at Astrazeneca, delivering on the evidence generation and medical educatoin in the value of precision medicine supporting the oncology portfolio. Previoulsy he oversaw the CDx group at GSK delivering on diagnostic products for the ovarian and endometrial indications. At Pfizer, he oversaw the global CDx developments the oncology portfolio, leading industry first achievements to support of the lung, prostate and breast cancer franchises. Dr. Perez is a founding team member of Tocagen, a gene therapy company and co-founder of Nodality, a biotechnology company focused on developing blood based diagnostics . He is an inventor of the multiparametric phosphoflow(TM) technologies and an author in 39 publications and 36 patents. Dr. Perez is recipient of several prestigious awards that include being a Kauffman Fellow finalist, nominee for MITs T35 Young Innovator award, the Herzenberg Prize, the Human Immunology Award Dana Foundation, and the BMS-Irvington Award. He is also a advisory board member to Panarea Partners and the National Hispanics Life Science Society
