Achieving a vision of patient-centered healthcare requires multi-stakeholder collaboration each step of the way. As national attention on the use of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) grows, significant progress needs to be made to ensure that they are fairly used for accountability purposes in the context of performance-based payment models. This can benefit from a rapid learning process that provides great value to all stakeholders along the way. To capture these lessons, Avalere Health, American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network, Families USA, Kaiser Permanente’s Institute for Health Policy, the National Quality Forum, the Pacific Business Group on Health, and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America combined forces and gathered input from more than 18 organizations to examine, explore, and provide recommendations for advancing the use of PROs for measuring performance.
