The legislation, among other things, aims to improve the coordination of public and private efforts to facilitate the development of safer and more effective drugs, create a biobanking initiative, expand the genomics workforce, and improve the quality of clinical genetic testing. A milestone for personalized medicine and the PMC, the Genomics and Personalized Medicine Act will significantly increase Congressional awareness of the power and promise of personalized medicine and its potential to understand and treat disease, potentially lower overall healthcare expenditures, and improve the of health of millions of Americans. The PMC greatly appreciates Senator Obama's understanding that the future of medicine requires new regulatory, reimbursement, and other federal guidelines to realize its promise and potential, and looks forward to continuing to work with him and his colleagues to improve and enact legislation that will advance personalized medicine. |
