These challenges include gaining better understanding of the molecular mechanisms of disease and finding more disease-gene associations; developing and validating of biomarkers that indicate predisposition or emergence of disease, or predict the response to therapy; developing reliable diagnostic instrumentation and methods that provide consistent, reproducible results from one laboratory to the next and at different times. These challenges can only be met with adequate funding and support from both government and private sources.
