H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute
Moffitt Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center located in Tampa, Florida. For the past six years, the Center has been developing Total Cancer Care (TCC), a system that focuses on integrating new technologies into the standard of care, developing a database for the collection, storage, and management of clinical data and scientific findings and combining that data with specific genetic information so that oncologists will eventually be able to tailor personalized treatments for their patients as part of the care-giving process.
Additionally, TCC seeks to improve the performance of clinical trials, and generate evidenced-based approaches that will increase response rates, reduce treatment toxicity and increase access to state-of-the-art cancer treatments in the patient’s own community.
In building Total Cancer Care Moffitt has:
- Formed new partnerships for funding, care delivery, data collection and implementation of new knowledge.
- Enrolled thousands of patients in a prospectively-consented research protocol asking patients to share biological samples and be followed over their lifetimes.
- Developed a bio-repository and a standardized template for profiling tumors and capturing data.
- Planned information portals for researchers to access data (existing), for patients to access information (under development) and for clinicians to access tumor-specific and other decision support (3-5 years).
