This networking event features remarks by

Eric S. Lander, Ph.D.
Director, Broad Institute
Dr. Lander, a geneticist, molecular biologist, and mathematician, is the director of the Whitehead Institute Center for Genome Research, one of the world's leading genome centers. He is also professor of biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the founding director of the newly created Broad Institute, aimed at realizing the promise of the human genome for medicine.

The sequencing of the human genome just a few years ago is now fueling a revolution in medical care. Studies of genetic variation are leading scientists to identify genes and proteins responsible for diseases such as cancer, asthma and diabetes. Drugs and diagnostic tests are already on the market that can predict a patient's response to certain medications, inform patients of their susceptibility to disease, or even guide them to improved diet and lifestyle for better health. Increased genomic knowledge is beginning to affect every aspect of our lives. With the human genomic code in hand, we can now create a roadmap to a future of medicine based on truly personalized healthcare.

The Personalized Medicine Coalition is a non-profit group established to advance the understanding and adoption of personalized medicine for the benefit of patients.
